In 1987, the Border Cafe opened its doors on a cozy corner in the heart of Harvard Square. It was decided from the start that a commitment to quality, value, and fairness in all respects of business would be the guiding value. Priority one was to serve genuinely good tasting food at a great price. The menu and atmosphere were carefully designed to appeal to all age groups. We added exceptional margaritas and cold cervezas to create a casual, fun-oriented establishment. The original menu offered traditional Tex-Mex favorites, but shortly after we opened our doors, we began an exploration into Cajun country. The Border Cafe adopted the philosophy of an unassuming culinary genius named Jose Creole, who boldly blended his native Jalisco dishes with Cajun delicacies.
